01 / The practice
Chartered accountants in Leicester who do more than file your numbers.
Myriad Accountants looks after limited companies, sole traders, contractors and landlords across Leicester, the East Midlands and the rest of the UK. Accounts, tax, payroll and VAT are the baseline. The value is in what we spot while we are already in your figures: the relief you have not claimed, the deadline that is about to bite, the decision that costs more in April than it does today. You get a chartered accountant on the other end of the phone, not a call centre.

Read more03 / Accounts
Year end accounts filed on time, and actually explained to you.
Your annual accounts are a legal obligation and, done properly, the clearest picture you will ever get of your own business. We prepare them for Companies House and HMRC, we file them before the deadline rather than on it, and then we walk you through what they say. Most owners have never had that second part, and it is the part worth paying for.
Where it goes wrong
- Filed lateCompanies House penalties start at £150 and climb from there.
- Never explainedA set of accounts you cannot read is a cost, not an asset.
- Left to the last monthRecords handed over in month eleven leave nothing left to plan with.
What we do
- Statutory accounts prepared under FRS 102 and below
- Filed at Companies House and submitted to HMRC
- Sole trader and partnership accounts
- A plain English walkthrough of what the numbers actually say
- Prior year comparatives, so you can see the direction of travel
- Early sight of your tax position, while you can still act on it
04 / Corporate tax
Corporation tax handled properly, and your bill known while there is still time to act on it.
Corporation tax is where most owner managed companies quietly overpay. Rarely through anything exotic. Usually through reliefs nobody claimed and timing nobody thought about. We prepare and file your CT600, and we look at your position before the year closes rather than after, which is the only point at which anything can still be changed.
Where it goes wrong
- Reliefs left on the tableCapital allowances, the annual investment allowance, R&D.
- A bill out of nowhereTold in month twenty, due in month twenty one.
- Salary and dividend driftThe split that worked two years ago rarely still works today.
What we do
- CT600 preparation and filing
- Capital allowances and annual investment allowance reviews
- R&D tax relief claims where the work genuinely qualifies
- Director salary and dividend planning
- Loss relief, carry back and group relief
- Your tax figure given to you in advance, in writing
05 / Personal tax
Personal tax in full, whoever you are and however complicated it has become.
Personal tax is not only for the self employed. Company directors, employees earning over £100,000, landlords, anyone selling a second property or a holding of shares, people with income from abroad, and families thinking about what they pass on all have a return to get right. We handle every part of it, claim what you are owed, and give you the figure in good time to put the money aside.
Where it goes wrong
- The January scrambleRushed returns are where mistakes and penalties live.
- Reliefs nobody claimedMarriage allowance, pension relief, gift aid, allowable expenses.
- A deadline inside a deadlineCapital gains on UK property has its own 60 day reporting window.
What we do
- Self assessment for directors, employees, landlords and the self employed
- Dividend and salary planning
- Capital gains tax on property, shares and business disposals
- Rental income, from one flat to a full portfolio
- Inheritance tax planning, trusts and estates
- Foreign income, residence and domicile
- The £100,000 allowance taper and the High Income Child Benefit Charge
- HMRC enquiries and correspondence handled on your behalf
06 / VAT
Registered, scheduled and filed, with Making Tax Digital handled so you never think about it.
VAT catches people out more than any other tax, because it is quarterly, unforgiving and full of edge cases. We register you at the right moment, pick the scheme that suits how you actually trade, keep you compliant with Making Tax Digital, and file every return on time. Then we answer the phone when HMRC writes to you.
Where it goes wrong
- Registering lateThe threshold is a rolling twelve months, not your financial year.
- The wrong schemeFlat rate can cost you money as easily as it can save it.
- Digital linksMaking Tax Digital needs more than a spreadsheet and good intentions.
What we do
- VAT registration and deregistration
- Scheme selection: standard, flat rate, cash accounting, annual accounting
- Quarterly return preparation and filing
- Making Tax Digital compliant software set up
- Partial exemption, and the reverse charge in construction
- VAT inspections and HMRC queries handled for you
07 / Payroll
Your team paid on time, RTI filed, pensions sorted. Every month, without a reminder from you.
Payroll is the one thing you cannot be late with, because your people notice immediately. We run it, we file the Real Time Information submissions with HMRC on or before every pay date, we handle auto enrolment, and we send you the payslips and the figure to pay before pay day rather than after it.
Where it goes wrong
- Late RTIHMRC penalties for a late full payment submission are automatic.
- Auto enrolment missedThe Pensions Regulator's fixed penalty starts at £400.
- Statutory paySick, maternity and holiday calculations are where the errors hide.
What we do
- Weekly, fortnightly and monthly payroll runs
- RTI submissions to HMRC every pay period
- Auto enrolment assessment and pension uploads
- Payslips, P60s, P45s and P11Ds
- Statutory sick, maternity, paternity and holiday pay
- Construction Industry Scheme returns
08 / Business start ups
Get the structure right at the start, because it is far cheaper than fixing it later.
The decisions you make in your first month set your tax position for years. Sole trader or limited company. When to register for VAT. How to pay yourself. What to keep and where. We set the whole thing up properly and then stay with you, so your first year end is a formality instead of an archaeology project.
Where it goes wrong
- The wrong structureIncorporating too early and incorporating too late both cost money.
- No records from day oneRebuilding year one from a bank statement is expensive.
- Missed registrationsCorporation tax, PAYE, VAT and self assessment each have their own clock.
What we do
- Sole trader or limited company, with the numbers behind the recommendation
- Company formation at Companies House
- Registration for corporation tax, PAYE, VAT and self assessment
- Business bank account and bookkeeping set up
- Your first year budget and tax forecast
- A plain list of what you must file, and when
09 / Business consultancy
What the numbers mean, and what to do next. The conversation most accountants skip.
Compliance tells you what already happened. Consultancy is about what happens next. We look at your margins, your cash, your pricing and your overheads, and we tell you plainly where the money is going and what would change if you moved something. Then we build the machinery underneath it: the software, the processes and the reporting that get your numbers to you early enough to use them. This is the part of the job that pays for the rest of it.
Where it goes wrong
- Profit without cashGrowing businesses run out of money more often than failing ones do.
- Pricing by feelMost owners have never properly costed a job.
- Numbers that arrive too lateFigures three months old cannot change a decision you have already made.
What we do
- Growth planning, with the numbers behind each option
- Cash flow forecasting and working capital planning
- Margin analysis by product, service or client, and pricing reviews
- New accounting software chosen, implemented and migrated
- Finance processes rebuilt so month end is quick and clean
- Management reporting you can act on, arriving early enough to matter
- Funding applications and lender packs
- Exit, succession and retirement planning
10 / Cloud accounting
Xero set up and running properly, so you see your position today instead of last March.
Cloud accounting is only worth having if it is actually current. We set up Xero, connect your bank feeds, get invoicing and receipt capture working, and train you on the five things you will genuinely use. Then we keep an eye on it, so the data stays clean and the figures mean something when you look at them.
Where it goes wrong
- Set up and abandonedSoftware nobody was trained on is worse than a spreadsheet.
- Unreconciled feedsSix months of unmatched transactions is not a live position.
- A chart of accounts nobody designedMiscategorised data makes every report meaningless.
What we do
- Xero set up, migration and bank feed connection
- A chart of accounts built around how you actually trade
- Receipt capture and invoice automation
- Training on the parts you will use, not all of it
- Ongoing review so the data stays clean
- Making Tax Digital compliance built in from the start
11 / Bookkeeping
Records kept clean as you go, so year end is a formality instead of a scramble.
Bookkeeping is the least glamorous thing we do and the most valuable, because everything else stands on it. Accurate books mean an accurate VAT return, an accurate tax bill and a real view of your cash. We do it monthly or quarterly, we chase what is missing, and we flag anything that looks wrong while there is still time to ask about it.
Where it goes wrong
- The shoeboxA year of receipts in December costs more to process than twelve tidy months.
- One account for everythingPersonal and business spending mixed together creates work and risk.
- Nothing reconciledIf the bank does not match, nothing built on top of it can be trusted.
What we do
- Monthly or quarterly bookkeeping
- Bank, credit card and loan reconciliations
- Sales and purchase ledger maintenance
- Receipt and invoice chasing
- Catch up work on historic records
- A monthly summary of where you actually stand

Advice that drives growth, new accounting software implemented properly, and processes and reporting rebuilt so your numbers arrive early enough to act on.
Individuals, landlords and families
Property income, capital gains, inheritance planning, and returns that stand up to a second look.
13 / Switching
Switching takes one email. We do the rest.
The thing that stops most people is imagining the paperwork. There is none. Here is the whole process.
Press and hold to draw the thread closed and reveal the three steps of switching. The steps are also listed beside this control.
- 01
You say yes.
One email to us. That is the only thing you do.
- 02
We ask them.
We write to your current accountant for your records. Standard practice, and they expect it.
- 03
We take over.
We pick up your deadlines, your filings and your history. You carry on running the business.
Most switches are done inside a fortnight. You will not need to chase anyone.
14 / Why Myriad
More than accountants. A trusted partner.
Chartered, not just qualified
ACA, and regulated by the ICAEW. There is a difference, and it shows up on the day something goes wrong.
You get the person, not a department
The accountant who prepares your work is the one who answers your call.
Priced before it starts
We agree the fee with you at the first meeting. No hourly clock, and no invoice for a five minute question.
Proactive, not annual
We tell you about a deadline or a relief while you can still do something about it.
15 / Fees
You will know the fee before we start.
There is no price list here, because a sole trader with clean books and a company two years behind are not the same job. We talk it through at the first meeting, we agree the figure with you there, and that is the figure. No hourly clock. No invoice for a five minute question.
16 / Questions
The things people ask before they move.
Is switching really that easy?
Yes. You send one email and we handle the professional clearance with your current accountant. It is a routine part of our job and theirs.
What if I still owe my current accountant money?
You can still move. Settling the balance first just makes the handover of your records quicker.
Will I get charged every time I ask something?
No. Questions are part of the fee. If a question turns into a piece of work, we tell you the price before we start it.
How much do you charge?
We agree it with you at the first meeting, once we have seen what the work actually involves. You get the figure in writing before anything starts.
My books are a mess. Is that a problem?
It is the normal starting point. We quote the catch up separately and up front, then keep it tidy from there.
Do I have to use Xero?
No, but we recommend it and we set it up for you. If you would rather keep spreadsheets, we will work with those.
Are you local?
We are in Leicester and happy to meet. Most of our clients work with us remotely and never need to.
Are you regulated?
Yes. Myriad is run by an ACA who is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, and we are authorised with HMRC as a tax agent.
17 / Start here
Tell us where you are stuck.
Send it over and we will come back to you. No charge for the conversation, and if we are not the right fit we will say so.
